This past Friday I attended an amazing talk entitled “The Black Revolution In Data Science” given by Dr. Talitha Washington, inaugural director of the Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative. It was an amazing talk (inserted below), and the impact of the program will be tremendous. In short, it is a data science program squarely focused on developing the analytic tools and frameworks capable of enriching and centering the lives of Black people. I entered a few more thoughts in this substack post, part of a newsletter I am trying to get going on AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Here is Dr. Washington’s talk.
I you have any interest in pursuing study in data science that centers the lives of Black people, I would encourage you to explore the Atlanta University Center Data Science Initiative.
